January hmmm! I don’t like January! I love Christmas, especially Christmas Eve, I think that it’s the expectation of it all and the thought of all of the children getting all excited about the prospect of Santa coming and I love Midnight Mass and don’t the Christmas presents look beautiful all in their pretty wrappings , under the glow of the tree lights, far nicer than they look the next morning when they’ve been ripped open and either loved or disappointed our loved ones, (sigh) I love Christmas. I remember when I was young and the BBC (my Dad would never watch ITV on Christmas Day because of the holiday adverts) used to advertise Boxing Day on BBC1, my heart would sink as it was all but over as far as I was concerned! Boxing Day was always Panto . Day (oh yes it was), a tradition that my family still maintain to this day, however this year, it fell that Chelsea were playing at Birmingham, (exit Stage Left Panto) . New Years Eve has never particularly appealed to me either, as it kind of signals the end of the season! Normally NYE is improved by the fact that my family and I usually fly off to warmer climes, however this year my daughter Katherine is involved in GCSE’s, so no holiday abroad. We did however, have a marvellous New Years break in London, they certainly know how to put on a show in Westminster and it did finish with 5.0. thrashing of Watford in the FA Cup! But I remain unimpressed by New Years Eve in general! Now it’s January! It’s cold, it’s snowing, someone has crashed in to my car, they slid on the ice! And of course, I am on a diet! Let’s face it, January is depressing! My friends tell me that Spring is on the way, the crocuses (?), will soon be coming up and all kinds of cheery stories. Well as I look out of my window, the snow is falling, which was very beautiful and welcome at Christmas, but I’ve had enough of it now!, people and their cars are slipping all over the road and I must say that Spring seems a very long way away! Anyway on to 2010 and Mercury’s second Decade! We were planning rehearsals for early January, but the snow has put paid to that, however, there are big plans afoot for the show. There will be new songs, old songs re- arranged, all sorts of goodies are planned for 2010! Snow permitting, we kick off this year at the lovely Plaza theatre at Stockport and next week we are off to Scotland. Keep your eye on the tour dates section as dates are coming in thick and fast and seem to be changing about quite a bit , for some unknown reason! Hopefully, there will be new photo’ s on the website too! We are going to pay more attention to the website this year. As we do nearly everything ourselves, some things get put to one side and never get done You know how it is!) So all that remains is for to wish all of our fan’s and friends a very Happy, Wealthy , but above all Healthy New Year. Please come out and support us in 2010, your support makes the shows. You are the music, we’re just the band! Happy New Year Love Pat xxx |
